From 10th to 13th of September, the 6th International Conference on Women’s Issues in Transportation (WIiT 2019), which took place in Irvine, California, explored women’s perspectives, challenges, achievements, and opportunities with respect to travel and transportation. The conference provided an update on the progress and challenges in relation to women and mobility; explored how gender equality practices in transportation are increasing business and economics development; exchanged ideas on how public agencies can incorporate good gender equality policies and practices with approaches to oversee efforts and measure performance; and examined methods to address safety and security of women who are employed with or using transportation systems.
Fanny Breuil (EURECAT) and Francisco Santarremigia (AITEC manager), as part of the DIAMOND team, participated with two presentations in the session focused on the inclusion of women in the transport system. In addition, Wafaa Saleh (Edinburgh Napier University) participated in the expert panel ‘Framing the future for women in transport through collaborative research’.
The very interesting presentation of Francisco Santarremigia, introduced the concepts of the polyhedral individual and inclusion diamond which are the basis of the novel methodology of the DIAMOND project.
