The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has published a new version of the Statement of Environmental Management System ISO 14001, the global standard to demonstrate commitment to the environment.
In Spain, fifth in the world and third in Europe by number of certified according to ISO 14001, over 16,000 organizations must adapt to these new requirements up to three years until September 2018.
The revised standard includes new requirements, such as:
greater environmental protection by incorporating practices for preventing Contaminació,
sustainable use of the resource,
the consideration of environmental variables as a strategic element in business management,
strengthens the role of senior management in leadership management system
It includes a focus on full life cycle
more effective communication where the information must be clear, accurate, reliable and comprehensible
The rules are reviewed periodically to ensure that they adapt to the new needs of the organizations and to facilitate their integration into other management systems, a current increasingly popular in business.
The advantages of a certified environmental management are numerous, but can be summarized in three: transmits direct and credible commitment form; economic benefits by optimizing the consumption of energy and other resources and the optimization of processes are obtained; and reduces legal risks.
